Frailty X Strength

frailty x strength. tension x ease. light x dark.

Patterning + structure allow this corset to standalone and maintain its shape

Contrasting elements and concepts have always been present in my creative process; a delicate thread functioning as strengthening, a translucent open weave fabric mixed with a tightly woven one, synthetic and natural materials, light and dark colors...

Keeping the tension and ease on this delicate thread was challenging and time consuming

Keeping the tension and ease on this delicate thread was challenging and time consuming

Although simple in design, this corset took countless hours given the nature of the thread, also experimenting with new techniques and materials took some time to work around. This was the first time I used synthetic whalebone on a corset and its shaping qualities are quite interesting, it's also very lightweight in comparison to steel.

I have also experimented with different grain lines which seemed fine in the toile but produced noticeable wrinkles in the mesh (right next to the hip panels both front and back) , I'm not sure if this is due to grain line or the nature of the mesh.

This corset was an exercise of patience, acceptance of imperfections and a reminder to respect my own pace.
